Kinward is a family trip app built by Nok. This page explains what Kinward reads, what it keeps, and what it never does.

What Kinward reads

Forwarding bookings

Instead of (or as well as) connecting Gmail, you can forward a booking email to trips@trykinward.com. Cloudflare, which handles email for trykinward.com, passes it straight to Kinward's server, which reads it the same way as a Gmail booking (see below) and doesn't keep the email itself. Kinward only sees the emails you choose to forward, and only accepts them from your family's own email addresses.

How bookings are read

To pull out the details (dates, times, flight numbers, addresses), the text of each travel email or file is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI. Before email text is sent, Kinward blanks out ticket, card, passport and loyalty numbers. It also tells the AI to leave out prices, ticket numbers, payment details, loyalty numbers and contact details, and Anthropic does not use this data to train its models under its commercial terms. Kinward does not keep a copy of your emails.

Asking Kinward

When you ask Kinward a question or use Fix my trip, your question, the earlier messages in that chat, and a summary of your trip (your bookings with their times, and your family's first names and ages) are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to answer it. Claude may search the web for things like weather, opening hours or flight status. So that the Ready tab's suggestion buttons (like ideas for a night with nowhere to stay) open instantly, Kinward asks those questions ahead of time, the same way, and keeps the answers on your phone for up to 3 days. Kinward's server doesn't keep the chat; it stays on your phone, along with your last 20 earlier chats. Kinward writes messages for you to send, but only you send them.

Trip ideas

Before you have a trip, Kinward shows ideas for your family. To pick them, it sends Anthropic's Claude AI how many adults are traveling, the children's ages (not names), the current month and your phone's time zone. The ideas are kept on your phone for about a month. The sample trip in "See how it works" is made up and stays on your phone.

Photos of places you stay

When a booking email includes the listing's own photo (Airbnb does), Kinward keeps the link to that photo and shows it from the booking site. Otherwise, to show a photo of a hotel you've booked, Kinward sends that place's name and city to Google Maps. Nothing about you or your family is sent. Private homes booked through sites like Airbnb aren't looked up on Google. When Ask suggests places (hotels, restaurants, things to do), Kinward sends each place's name and city to Google Maps the same way, to show its photo. For the city photos on your Trip and Plan, Kinward sends only the names of the cities you're staying in to Wikipedia (and, when you type a city in Edit booking, that name, to check its spelling); when Ask suggests dishes to try or a kind of place (like "a pool villa in Jomtien"), or Kinward shows trip ideas, it sends only the dish, area or landmark names, the same way. Photos you choose yourself stay on your phone.

Flight delay alerts

To warn your family when a flight is delayed, cancelled or diverted, Kinward's server checks each flight on your trip, starting a day before it leaves and until it lands. For each check it sends only the flight number and date to AeroDataBox, a flight data service (through RapidAPI). Nothing about you or your family is sent. Alerts are delivered to your family's phones through Expo's notification service and Apple. You can turn them off on any phone in Settings, under Notifications.

Weather

While Kinward writes a fix plan for a delayed flight, it shows the weather where you'll land. To get it, Kinward's server sends only the arrival airport and time to Apple Weather (WeatherKit). Nothing about you or your family is sent.

What Kinward keeps

What Kinward never does

Google user data

Kinward's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Disconnecting and deleting

In Kinward, go to Settings and tap Disconnect next to Gmail. Kinward deletes what it stored on the server and asks Google to revoke its access. You can also remove access any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. To delete everything, email us and we'll confirm when it's done.

Early access list

If you leave your email on trykinward.com, Kinward saves that address (and which box you used) on its server, only to email you when the app is ready. It isn't shared or sold. To be taken off the list, email the address below.
